What is pARTy & Paint Charleston? It is a fabulous new art studio in Avondale (the “downtown” of West Ashley) that celebrates creativity because art, simply stated, just makes you feel good! We offer a variety of artistic experiences because art and creativity have a place in everyone’s life. When you enter our studio, the only thing you’ll be thinking about is how much fun you are having being creative and interacting with other people being creative around you- social art, how much fun is that?!! You’ll just need to see for yourself
We offer evening sip n paint classes that are led by one of our many wonderful, talented local artists that guide you through the evening’s subject matter. The experience is made more enjoyable by participating with a friend, spouse, date, family member, or perhaps even new friends you’ll make at the studio. We are a BYOB studio for painters that are at least 21 years of age (beer or wine only please, no spirits). So feel free to bring in your favorite bottle of wine, fill up your growler, or we provide complimentary water, lemonade or tea for you to sip on while you enjoy some “mood” music, enjoyable company and an entertaining, yet professional acrylic painting class. At the conclusion of the class, you’ll leave with the best pARTy favor you’ve had in a long while- your very own Masterpiece!
We have taken a lot of care in making the studio comfortable, and placing it in such a convenient location. It really looks more like an art lounge than classroom, with our leather bar stools and hand-crafted art tables made from recycled old Charleston doors, flooring and siding (courtesy of Charleston Recycled). Being in such a terrific neighborhood, you have the convenience of ordering some great appetizers to munch on in class by calling one of our neighbors: maybe a great cheese plate from Avondale Wine & Cheese, hummus or tailgate dip from Triangle Char & Bar, antipasti from Al Di La, pizza or pretzels from Mellow Mushroom, or perhaps some artichoke spinach dip or edamame from the Roost… just a few suggestions, but you get the idea. And of course, any of those places and several others would be great places to visit before or after a class!!
We also offer birthday parties, classes, camps and workshops for children and teens. We have a strong relationship with chART (Charleston Art) Outdoor Initiative, and we are thrilled to have two chARTists on staff. We are very excited to have two mural workshops over the summer with our two chARTists, as well as some surprise guest speakers and demonstrations! pARTy & Paint Charleston will also be a great resource for after-school art instruction and portfolio preparation in the fall!
Perhaps our most important mission we saved for last! Our studio is very proud to announce that we are seeking 501(c)3 non-profit status as we also provide Art Therapy group sessions. It is our hope to empower those in need to turn to art for personal growth. Art does heal. Please check out our Art Therapy section on the site. If there is a topic you would like addressed in a future session, please let us know!
Hope to see you at our studio soon!
A note from our founder, Stephanie McGillicuddy…
For those that don’t know me, I am blessed to say I am a native Charlestonian. What a fabulous place to grow up and call home! I was raised on James Island, attended the College of Charleston, and I have made West Ashley my home with my husband, Patrick, and our three children, Madison, Michael and Connor since 2003.
My background is in marketing, and I was in real estate and mortgage banking before being diagnosed with breast cancer in May of 2009. While going through cancer treatment, I knew that when I was able to return to work that I wanted to do something with cancer patients, my way of paying it forward after being cared for by so many angels! On my 9th wedding anniversary last year, my husband took me to what was then Bottles ‘n Brushes (now Wine & Design) in Mt. Pleasant. It was the first time since chemo, radiation, and surgeries that I was able to go out, have a lovely glass of wine, relax and have FUN being creative! That night sparked something in me…it reminded me that using the right side of my brain was so incredibly therapeutic. That night was the birth of pARTy & Paint Charleston. The next day I started researching how I could bring art to the masses in group art therapy sessions, children’s art classes and parties, and of course the popular art as entertainment variety (sip ‘n paint). I named the studio pARTy & Paint Charleston because I believe art is something to be celebrated, much like a party, and I guarantee you will have fun with us!
